A caller reported hearing a gunshot and people running outside the Rockingham Park Mall in Salem just after 6 p.m. on Monday, Aug. 22, according to a police report. The caller also saw a black Acura with Massachusetts plates heading towards the highway after the incident.
The report later said a male victim walked into an urgent care center with a gunshot wound to his hand. He was subsequently taken to a local hospital for treatment for non-life-threatening injuries, police said.
A "Be On The Lookout" (BOLO) alert was issued for the vehicle but police were unable to find it, according to the report. Police have said the shooting does not appear to be random and believe there is no threat to the community.
No arrests have been made at this time. Anyone with information is asked to call Salem police Detective Robert Farah at 603-893-1911.
